A method for achieving the least latency in Sonobus

By way of context, this method was developed during a session between Charles Shriner and I. Charles is in Indianapolis, and I'm in Ithaca, NY. Sessions between players at longer distances obviously won't be able to achieve the same low latency that we were (in our case, it was about 50 ms.) The description of our method will be pretty terse -- in part because it's pretty simple, and in part because the details have vanished from my memory (the session was about a month ago). Like JamKazam, you need a hard-wired Ethernet connection. WiFi won't work. The initial

Not necessarily my style, but I’m going to give it a whirl

Right now I'm getting a lot of mileage out of FD-1 filter delay, and I've also gotten good results from Adrian Belew's Flux:FX (though it's too much of a hog to use live). This looks worth checking out, too: Sugarbytes Looperator Effects Sequencer Now Available For iPadSugar Bytes has introduced Looperator for iPad, a port of its 16-step sample slicer and creative multi-fX sequencer, previously available for macOS & Windows.

Remote music blogathon: part 1

Here in the online realm of the socially distant, there’s a lot of discussion about setting up live performances via the network, and about a jillion questions about gear and techniques and whatnot.  I thought I’d try to at least gather them in an orderly way. I don’t know nearly as much as some (most?) of you do, but I used to make my living organizing information, so this is an attempt at working through stuff in an orderly way. It’ll be greatly improved by your comments and suggestions, both as to the details and as for topics you'd like to see covered.  So p

BeardFarm: This is reality

Once again, Mr. Karl Fury and I are punishing our fans (both of them) with a new release. This is Reality is being released today. Go snarf it up on BandCamp. We had a lot of fun doing it -- and a lot of it was done in an unconventional way; the bulk of the album is taken from recording sessions we did via the over-the-Innertoobz music app JamKazam. It seems like black magic to me, and my pal Mike Hunter swears that it can't possibly work. And I would have too, except that, at least between Ithaca and Princeton (and Ithaca and Indianapolis, which is how I collabora
